In May 1999, Advent completed the buyout of Santiago Graffigna & Sainte Sylvie, one of the largest producers of premium wine and champagne in Argentina.
Operating in a rapidly expanding domestic market, growing an average of 11% a year, the company also had strong export potential, due to the attractive price-to-value ratio for Argentine wine.
Despite the Argentine recession, Graffigna increased sales by 45% during our investment, while gaining market share domestically. Advent worked with the company to improve its production and fermentation assets, purchasing new steel tanks that improved product quality and elevated the wine to world-class standards.
In July 2001, Graffigna was acquired by Allied Domecq Spirits & Wines U.S.A. Today, it is one of the leading brands in Argentina and is exported to more than 30 countries.
